KABUL (Pajhwok): One religious scholar has been killed and another injured by unidentified assailants in northern Baghlan province, police said on Wednesday.
The victims were identified as Maulvi Hamdullah Mohammadi and Maulvi Abdul Razzaq, respectively khateeb at the main city mosque and teacher at the mosque’s seminary.
In a statement, the police headquarters said Maulvi Abdul Razzaq lost his life while Maulvi Hamdullah sustained injuries in the overnight incident Baghlan-i-Markazi district.
The scholars came under attack on their way to a meal, the statement added. Initial investigations linked the attack to personal enmity.
Information and Culture Director Maulvi Mustafa Hashimi, meanwhile, confirmed the religious scholars were gunned down by unknown motorcyclists.
