JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Work for the construction of fragrant flowers farms in six districts of eastern Nangarhar province has started, an official said on Monday.
Farmers were distributed today (Monday) the sapling of fragrant flowers from which the perfume would be made and nine types of agriculture tools.
Agriculture Director Mawlavi Mohammad Wali Mohsan told a gathering that the construction of Motiya gardens on five acres land in six districts --- Hisarak, Sra Road, Chaparhar, Lalpura and Momandara district kicked off.
Mohsin added that each gardener was given 1,000 fragrant catnip plants and nine pieces of gardening equipment, including pruning shears, hand-held carts, a pesticide pump, a rake, a measuring tape, a flower-picking pitcher, and a sprinkler.
He added that in the near future, these gardeners would also be provided with training in flower cultivation, care, irrigation, disease prevention, and agricultural practices.
Mawlavi Ghulam Farooq Qasami, head of the Gardening Department, said that the economic benefits of the fragrant flowers are great, so efforts were made to promote them in provinces where it give good result..
The climate of Nangarhar is suitable for the cultivation and cultivation of these flowers that is why they started in this province.
On the other hand, farmers who have been given plants and equipment to grow their gardens said they needed support in the area marketing for these flowers.
Awal Gul, a resident of Lalpura district who was supported in raising a rose garden, said that roses were also grown in some districts in the past, but now, due to the collapse of the rose perfume factory, no one buys roses from those farmers.
However, officials from the Nangarhar provincial agriculture department said that work had been done for the marketing of fragrant flowers and that there is a great demand for them in the market right now, so traders would buy them from the gardens.
