KABUL (Pajhwok): Japan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has contributed 1.5 million US dollars in humanitarian aid to Afghanistan, the United Nations Population Fund (UNFPA) announced on Tuesday.

UNFPA wrote on its X handle: “UNFPA thanks @Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) Japan_en for contributing $1.5 million to support maternal, child & youth health in #Afghanistan.

“The new funding will ensure access to lifesaving health & psychosocial support to 60.000 women, girls & children in country's 3 provinces.”

A day earlier, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (UNOCHA) said Switzerland had contributed 2.6 million US dollars to the Afghanistan Humanitarian Fund (AHF).

Earlier, the Japan Embassy in Kabul had inked a $6.9 million agreement with the United Nations International Children’s Emergency Fund (UNICEF) for providing necessary vaccines for Afghan children and women in need.
