Russia, Iran to sign strategic agreement on Friday

KABUL (Pajhwok): Tehran and Moscow are set to ink a comprehensive strategic agreement on Friday, Iranian media reported on Tuesday.

ISNA said Russian President Vladimir Putin would meet his Iranian counterpart Massoud Pezeshkian on a number of issues of common interest.

The two leaders would also sign a comprehensive strategic agreement between their countries, the report added.

The leaders are expected to discuss prospects for expanding bilateral cooperation and current regional and international issues.

Kazem Jalali, the Iranian ambassador in Moscow hoped the accord would lead to the growth of bilateral cooperation in all aspects of relations.

In 2001, Iran had signed with Russia a comprehensive agreement, which was then approved by the Iranian security council as well. The 20-year agreement was expired in 2021, Jalali recalled.
