KABUL (Pajhwok): The Information and Culture Department registered 57 more ancient monuments in central Maidan Wardak province in 1403 solar, an official said on Wednesday.
Information and Culture Director Maulvi Habibullah Mujahid told Pajhwok Afghan News these historical monuments were registered in the 1403 solar year.
“The ancient monuments and sites represent the history and culture of our country and people. Such archaeological sites have been paid special attention by the department,” he added.
According to Mujahid, these monuments included shrines, large castles, mosques, and stupas dating back to the time of the Kusham Empire.
“Among these historical monuments, the castle of Kalasapid, Zarghoon Baba, Ghazi Mohammad Jan Khan, and Khudai Nazar Khan were built hundreds of years ago and were considered important strongholds of jihad and struggle at different times”.
The monuments are located in Narkh, Jalrez, Saydabad, Daimirdad, Chak, and Jaghatu districts of the province, Muhajid explained.
Officials of the department said before the Islamic Emirate’s takeover, only 18 ancient monuments were registered with the department.
