KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi has called on Director of International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) for the Asia-Pacific region to continue their assistance to the Afghan returnees.
In a statement, the Presidential Palace said Deputy Prime Minister Maulvi Hanafi met Director of IFRC for the Asia-Pacific region, Alexander Matheou, and his delegation.
In this meeting, Hanafi said Afghans have been severely affected by climate change, natural disasters such as earthquakes and floods, and that thousands of Afghans have been forcibly deported by neighboring countries.
He asked IFRC’s officials to continue their cooperation to Afghan refugees and forced returnees.
According to the statement, Alexander Matheo explained they had assisted Afghans in various provinces of Afghanistan by providing employment to poor families affected by natural disasters, vaccinations to needy, and operations for children with heart defects through ARCS so far.
He said that they plan to continue their assistance in these areas with the help and cooperation of the Islamic Emirate.
