KABUL (Pajhwok): The Salang highway -- a key link between Kabul and northern provinces -- reopened for light vehicles this morning, an official said on Monday.
On his X account, Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works (MoPW), wrote snowfall had stopped and the route had reopened for the light vehicles stuck on both sides of Salang Pass.
Absent snowfall and storms, the route would reopen for all types of traffic, he said, adding local officials were trying to ensure the safety of passengers.
Authorities were on high alert to keep the route open for all sorts of traffic if it did not snow again, the MoPW spokesman continued.
