JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Police have rounded up 100 child beggar in Jalalabad city, the capital of eastern Nangarhar province, and referred them to relevant organisations for assistance.
Police spokesman Syed Tayib Hammad told Pajhwok Afghan News these beggars included young girls and boys who were engaged in begging in various parts of Jalalabad city.
He said the Counter-Narcotics Department conducted the campaign to round up beggars from the provincial capital on Tuesday.
He added security personnel collected 104 child beggar, including boys and girls, during the drive.
He added: "The Department of Vice and Virtue gave these beggars advisory talks, and their lists were handed over to the Red Crescent, Martyrs and Disabled Affairs, and Labour and Social Affairs Departments for assistance."
Officials say a campaign to round up beggars and provide them with assistance and work opportunities from the provincial capital is conducted every week based on the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) leadership decision.
