KABUL (Pajhwok): The Norwegian Refugee Council (NRC) has expressed concern over US President Donald Trump’s decision to suspend foreign aid for three months.
On his X handle, NRC Secretary-General Jan Egeland wrote: “The biggest threat to programmes helping Afghan women is funding cuts”.
He said: “If the US secretary of state does not make an exception to suspend aid, we will be forced to further reduce vital aid and lay off female aid workers who work to support girls.”:
Egeland raised this concern after Trump signed an executive order on his first day in office, temporarily suspending US international aid for three months.
Trump had earlier criticised the millions of dollars sent in aid to Afghanistan by the Joe Biden administration.
The U.S. Special Inspector General for Afghanistan Reconstruction says since the IEA takeover, the US has contributed $3.33 billion in humanitarian and development assistance to Afghanistan.
