KABUL (Pajhwok): Four teams --- Kabul A, Faryab, Mes Ainak and Band-i-Amir --- have qualified for the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Provincial Grade-I tournament from the ongoing Grade-II tournament, the Afghanistan Cricket Board (ACB) announced on Wednesday.
The Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan provincial Grade-II, which initiated on January 11, saw four teams from four groups advancing to the Grade-I tournament, ACB said.
A statement from the board explained Faryab team qualified from group A, Band-i-Amir team advanced from group B, Kabul A team qualified from group C and Mis Ainak team qualified from group D.
The statement explained that Kabul A, Faryab, and the Mes Ainak teams each won four matches, while the Band-i-Amir team advanced with three wins and a superior net run rate.
Meanwhile, Afghanistan Cricket Board spokesperson Syed Naseem Sadat told Pajhwok Afghan News on Wednesday that the Grade-II tournament was still ongoing across four venues in Khost, Nangarhar, Kunar, and Kandahar provinces.
He said that 40 teams have been divided into eight groups, and four additional teams will also qualify for the Grade-I domestic tournament.
Sadat further explained that along with these eight teams, two top teams from last year and two teams composed of standout players from first-class matches will form a 12-team lineup for the Wazir Mohammad Akbar Khan Provincial Grade-I tournament.
The matches for the remaining four groups in the Grade-II tournament began today and will continue until January 31.
The Provincial Grade-I tournament will commence shortly after the conclusion of the Grade-II event.
