Doha keen to expand bilateral ties with Kabul: Envoy

KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has urged the Qatari government and investors to avail the current investment opportunities in Afghanistan, assuring full cooperation of the caretaker government.

He issued the call at a meeting with Qatar’s Chargé d’Affaires in Kabul Dr. Mirdef Alqashouti, here today (Thursday), his office said in a statement.

It said both sides discussed expanding economic ties between Kabul and Doha.

The deputy premier expressed gratitude for Qatar’s hospitality during the Doha peace talks.

He urged the Qatari government and investors to take advantage of current investment opportunities in Afghanistan, assuring the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan’s full cooperation in this regard.

For his part, Qatar’s Chargé d’Affaires affirmed his country commitment to enhance bilateral ties with Afghanistan.

He added that efforts were underway to increase passenger and cargo flights between Doha and Kabul.

Furthermore, he announced that Qatar would soon begin construction of a 400-bed facility at Mirwais Hospital in southern Kandahar province.

Dr. Alqashouti also emphasised Qatar's readiness to cooperate with Afghanistan in the education sector and revealed plans to activate a Qatari charitable organisation in Kabul to assist Afghan citizens.
