KABUL (Pajhwok): U.S. military aircraft have begun transporting detained illegal immigrants from the country following President Donald Trump’s order, a media report said on Saturday.
US officials told Reuters: “Two US military aircraft, each carrying about 80 migrants, flew from the US to Guatemala”.
“Guatemala and the United States are committed to putting an end to illegal migration and strengthening border security”: the State Department added.
On her X handle, Assistant to the President and White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt wrote: “President Trump is sending a strong and clear message to the entire world: if you illegally enter the United States of America, you will face severe consequences”.
According to the State Department, it has removed refugee admission programs from its priority list and that no further activities that facilitate mass migration will be carried out.
Trump in his first day in office declared illegal immigration a national emergency, tasking the US military with aiding border security, issuing a broad ban on asylum, and taking steps to restrict citizenship for children born on American soil.
