452 Laghman addicts shifted to Kabul for treatment in 6 months

MEHTARLAM (Pajhwok): Police have collected 452 drug addicts in eastern Laghman province during the past six months, and transferred them to capital Kabul for treatment.

Police spokesman Yunis Yousufzai said the addicts will remain hospitalized at the Kabul Addiction Treatment Center for six months.

He said police had collected 452 drug addicts from five districts including Mehtarlam city and sent them to Kabul for treatment.

Families of the addicts are happy with treatment of their addicted members.

Janullah, a resident of Alishan District, said his sister’s husband was a drug addict, but he was arrested and hospitalized for treatment. His condition is now better and he has regained his patience from addiction.

According to Lal Agha, a resident of Se Sadeh area of Mehtarlam city, his brother, Tayebullah, a drug addict was hospitalized in a rehabilitation center in Kabul for a year. He has now recovered from his addiction and works as a tailor in the hospital.

Sahibullah, a resident of Shakhtari area of Alingar district, was happy that after two months of treatment in Kabul, he had recovered from addiction and had resumed his normal life.

“Nine years ago, I was addicted to various drugs in company of my friends, which caused me to lose respect in my home and village. But now, God has shown mercy again. And now I hate all kinds of addiction”.

He asked the government to continue treatment of drug addicts so that society could be free from this scourge.

Since IEA takeover, a series of efforts to collect and treat drug addicts has begun in the country, and thousands of people have been treated in various hospitals so far.
