BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): Some residents in central Ghazni province have held a protest rally against the arrest warrant of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) leader and the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court by the International Criminal Court (ICC).
A statement issued by the office of the ICC prosecutor, Karim Khan, requests approval for warrants for Haibatullah Akhundzada, the supreme leader of the IEA, and Abdul Hakim Haqqani, chief justice of the IEA’s supreme court.
The charge: They are “criminally responsible” for persecuting Afghan girls and women, their allies and those the Taliban perceives as not conforming with their ideological expectations of gender identity or expression.
Hundreds of residents of Ghazni province, tribal elders, dignitaries, university and school students, and youth strongly condemned the demand during a protest today (Sunday).
Haji Mohammad Musa Saadat, one of the protesters and a tribal elder, said that leadership of the IEA of Afghanistan strived for independence and justice in line with Islamic principles.
Mullah Gul Ahmad Motamidi, another protester, expressed similar views and stressed the request for the arrest of IEA leadership should be reversed.
Other protesters also expressed similar views and said foreign forces have committed numerous crimes against humanity in Afghanistan and Palestine, which the International Court of Justice should not turn a blind eye to.
They lend support for the leadership of the IEA and committed to stand behind them.
Mullah Hameedullah Nisar, head of the provincial Information and Cultural Affairs, said this request of ICC’s prosecutor was not based on justice but it was politically motivated.
The Afghan Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) in a statement said IEA firmly rejected these baseless accusations.
It is unfortunate that such unfounded claims are being made against the respected leaders of the IEA at a time when Afghanistan enjoyed nationwide peace, its people have breathed a sigh of relief, private prisons, kidnappings, the islands of power, & numerous other atrocities & crimes against humanity have been eradicated.
The statement strongly condemned and rejected the baseless allegations made by a prosecutor of the ICC regarding the Supreme Leader of the IEA, His Highness Amir-ul-Mu’mineen, & the respected Chief Justice of Afghanistan, Sheikh Abdul Hakim Haqqani.
