PARAKH (Pajhwok): Cricket competitions have been held in central Panjshir for the first time, with 150 athletes taking part in the 14-day event, local officials said.
According to a statement issued by Saifuddin Laton, the governor’s spokesman, the competitions were launched at the sports stadium in the provincial capital.
Mawlawi Obaidul Haq Zahir, head of the Panjshir Department of Olympic, Sports and Physical Education, said the competitions were being held in the province for the first time and that young people had participated enthusiastically.
The statement said various sports are currently active in different parts of Panjshir, with young people taking part in sporting activities during their free time.
The Panjshir administration also said it was working to provide young people with opportunities to participate in sports as part of efforts to prevent them from turning to drugs.
The administration said the cultivation, trafficking and trade of narcotics in Panjshir had been reduced to zero.
