KABUL (Pajhwok): Norwegian Refugee Council chief Jan Egeland has urged officials of European countries to go to Kabul and Kandahar and strive for the rights of women and girls.
In an interview with Agence France-Presse, Egeland explained that the international community had ignored the people of Afghanistan since the Islamic Emirate’s return to power.
He criticized the lack of international interaction with Afghanistan and said that very few representatives from European countries visited the country.
Egeland stressed that diplomats and officials from European countries should go to Kabul and Kandahar and strive for the rights of women and girls.
“There is no need to hold more meetings in Paris, Copenhagen or Oslo. Afghan women need us to interact with them in Afghanistan and fight for their rights.”
The Islamic Emirate has not yet responded to Egeland’s comments, but it has always emphasized that it is committed to the rights of women and girls within the framework of Sharia.
