KUNDUZ CITY (Pajhwok): More than 6,500 acres of land has been allocated to build five townships for returning refugees in northern Kunduz province, an official said on Saturday.
Repatriation and Refugees director Abdul Wali Mohammadi said about 6,750 acres of land was located in Qala-i-Zal, Imam Sahib, Chahar Dara districts and Kunduz city that five settlements would be built for refugees.
“Almost, we have five townships, 1,500 acres in Chahar Dara, 3,000 acres in Kunduz city, 1,000 acres in Qala-i-Zal and 1,250 acres are located in Imam Sahib district,” he added.
Mohammadi said construction work on these residential schemes will began as soon as possible.
On the other hand, some returnees from Pakistan and Iran asked officials to begin construction on shelters for them soon in collaboration with partner institutions.
Mohammad Ewaz, a refugee, explained: “We are happy with these settlements for us by IEA, we have just arrived and have no shelter. We want the start of work on our houses as soon as possible”.
“We are very happy with the construction of these townships for us, because some returnees from Pakistan and Iran cannot afford to pay rent and houses of their own are a great hope”: Faqir Mohammad, another returnee from Pakistan added.
Also, some other returnees are happy with the construction of townships for them.
According to officials, about 8,000 families returned from Iran and Pakistan this year.
