KABUL (Pajhwok): The acting Minister for Agriculture and Irrigation Mawlavi Attaullah Umari during a meeting with the UN Development (UNDP) Chief Stephen Rodrigues recommended the construction of canals and check dams along the Kunar, Amu, Murghab and Harirud Rivers, a statement said.
The meeting discussed the implementation of irrigation projects, alternative poppy programs, construction of check dams, irrigation canals, greenhouses, and distribution of improved seeds and agricultural equipment to farmers.
The UNDP Chief in Afghanistan has emphasized the organization's commitment to implementing agricultural projects and coordinating activities.
During the meeting, Omari also requested that water reservoirs, canals, and dams be built along the Kunar, Amu, Murghab, and Harirud rivers to provide farmers with better agricultural facilities.
Omari also emphasized the need to implement future projects that should include agriculture, livestock, climate, modern irrigation methods (drip systems), agricultural product processing, cooperation with the private sector, and the development of livestock.
The Acting Minister of Agriculture also called for greater coordination between the Ministry of Agriculture and the UNDP.
