MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): About 18 water supply networks and nine check dams have been constructed at a cost of 136 million in northern Balkh province this solar year, an official said on Tuesday.
Rural Rehabilitation and Development Director Yar Mohammad Shabir told Pajhwok Afghan News that 18 water supply networks and nine check dams had been built in various districts of the province in current solar year.
He said these networks and check dams were constructed in Kishindeh, Alburz, Marmul, Sholgara, Nahr-i-Shahi districts of the province.
He added thousands of families found access to clean drinking water after execution of these projects.
He also announced that for the upcoming year 1404, his department plans to construct 20 more water supply networks in addition to roads, check dams, and small bridges in the province.
Meanwhile, local residents expressed happiness over the construction of the water supply networks.
Jamaluddin, a resident of Balkh district, said he was pleased with the establishment of a water supply network in their area.
He explained that previously, residents relied on canal water, which caused numerous health and other problems.
Another resident, Asadullah, also expressed his happiness that a clean water supply network has been built in his village, providing people with access to clean drinking water.
These water supply networks were constructed in response to complaints from residents of many districts in Balkh about the lack of access to drinking water.
