Week-long volleyball tournament starts in Bamyan

BAMYAN CITY (Pajhwok): A volleyball tournament titled “Zemestani Cup” featuring 10 teams commenced in central Bamyan province on Thursday.

Rajab Ali Fitrat, an official of General Directorate of Physical Training and Sports, told Pajhwok Afghan News the week-long tournament was aimed to lure youth towards sports and promote the game in the province.

Athletes consider holding such competitions important and explain if necessary conditions and facilities are provided, there is good capacity and abilities among youths.

According to Ali Mohammadi, an athlete, there are youth with great potential and abilities in the province, but the lack of facilities and necessary support from relevant departments prevent them from using their potential.

Mohammadi asked the officials concerned to provide the opportunity for players to hold national-level sports competitions.
