213 children treated for malnutrition last month

KABUL (Pajhwok): About 213 children under five year were treated for malnutrition in the country in past one month, the United Nation International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) said on Sunday.

On his X handle, UNICEF representative in Afghanistan Tajudeen Ovewale wrote he had visited a refugee camp in southern Helmand province and.

He said every child had the right to live a healthy life. In January, 213 children under five were treated for malnutrition in the country, he said, without going into details.

The World Health Organisation (WHO) says more than 96,000 children suffering from acute malnutrition in Afghanistan have been treated with financial support from the European Union (EU).

Weight loss, loss of fat and muscle mass, sunken eyes, dry skin and hair, delayed wound healing, fatigue, difficulty concentrating and restlessness are some of the symptoms of malnutrition.
