SAR-I-PUL CITY (Pajhwok): Some cultural activists in northern Sar-i-Pul province have expressed concerns the deteriorated condition of Khawaja Ali Jawzjani’s tomb and asked the government to take immediate action for the restoration of this historic site.
The tomb of of Khwaja Ali Jawzjani is located in Sar-i-Pul City, the provincial capital.
The provincial Information and Culture Department, however, said that efforts to restore this historical site.
Sayed Hesamuddin Bashardost, an educator in Sar-i-Pul, said that the tomb of Khwaja Ali Jawzjani, a famous mystic, is located in the center of the province and has a special place among the people. According to him, a large number of people come to visit this historical site every day.
“Unfortunately, this tomb’s site has been severely damaged in recent years and is in danger of collapsing if it is not restored in time, this historical site is one of the cultural symbols of the north of the country and we should not allow it to be destroyed.”
He called on the Islamic Emirate to provide the budget for the reconstruction of the Khwaja Ali Jawzjani Shrine in every possible way and to start the work before it is too late.
Mohammad Hussain Baloch, another cultural figure in Sar-i-Pul, also emphasized that preserving historical monuments is the duty of citizens, especially the government, to preserve these cultural heritages for future generations.
”This historical monument represented our identity,” he said. “We need to take action to preserve our history and identity and save the tomb of Khwaja Ali Jawzjani from destruction.”
Abdullah Hosseini, another cultural figure in the province, called on the Islamic Emirate to provide the basis for the reconstruction of this shrine through UNESCO and international organizations.
He emphasized that the Ministry of Information and Culture must establish a monitoring and evaluation system to prevent further destruction of historical monuments.
Meanwhile, Mullah Abdul Ghaffar Haqnama, the head of the Sar-e-Pul Department of Information and Culture, said that the tomb of Khwaja Ali Jawzjani is 2,500 years old and has a special historical importance, but due to the lack of funds for its reconstruction, nothing has been done yet.
He added that the Sar-i-Pul Department of Information and Culture was trying to obtain a budget for its reconstruction from the Ministry of Information and Culture as soon as possible.
He added: "This issue has been discussed with the Ministry of Information and Culture, and in the near future we will witness the reconstruction of this historical monument."
According to the head of the Sar-i-Pul Department of Information and Culture, Khwaja Ali Jawzjani was one of the prominent and famous mystics of the third century, whose tomb is currently being visited by tourist.
