JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Reconstruction work has resumed on five incomplete healthcare projects at a cost of 225 million afghanis in eastern Nangarhar province, an official announced on Sunday.
Public Health Director Maulvi Aminullah Sharif told Pajhwok Afghan News the projects included the completion of hospitals in Batikot, Rodat, Sherzad and Hesarak districts.
The remaining construction work on the Public Health Department’s buildings would also be completed, the official said.
He recalled construction work on the projects had been initiated during the previous government but remained incomplete
The director urged local residents to cooperate with the government in maintaining healthcare facilities.
Meanwhile, residents of the province voiced satisfaction with the resumption of work on the health facilities.
Mujib-ur-Rahman, a tribal elder from Batikot district, told Pajhwok work on the hospital had started years ago but had not been completed
He also stressed the need to address shortages of medical personnel and supplies in the district’s healthcare centre.
The Public Health Department says it plans to initiate reconstruction work on seven more incomplete health projects in the upcoming year.
