JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Two buildings have been constructed for one school in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
At the opening ceremony, Education Director Shaikh Mohammad Sharif Halimi said the buildings had been constructed for Chamtala High School in Khogyani district at a cost of 44 million afghanis by UNICEF.
He expressed his happiness with the construction of these buildings, thanked the UNICEF and urged the UN agency to step up assistance.
Halimi said the buildings, which were constructed in a year, had 24 classrooms, two laboratories, two computer labs, toilets, water tanks, wells, a courtyard, 20 kilowatts of solar power and 840 desks and chairs.
Meanwhile, residents expressed their pleasure over the construction of the school buildings. Previously, students faced many problems, they recalled.
Malik Akhtar Mohammad, a tribal elder, said students had their lessons disrupted in rainy, winter and summer seasons.
But with the construction of the buildings, the elder added, students had been provided with a safe and enabling learning environment.
The Education Department is trying to construct buildings for all schools across the province whose students are currently studying in the open, officials say.
