Champions Trophy winners to earn $2.24m: ICC

Kabul (Pajhwok): The International Cricket Council (ICC) has increased prize money for the eight-nation Champion's Trophy by 53 percent and the winning side will receive a whopping 2.24 million US dollars besides an impressive trophy.

ICC in a statement yesterday announced the prize money for the Champion's Trophy beginning in Pakistan next week. According to the statement, the winner of the tournament will receive $2.24 million, while the runner-up will be awarded $1.12 million.

The third and fourth place teams will receive $560,000 each, and the fifth and sixth place teams will get $350,000 each.

ICC added the seventh and eighth place teams will receive $140,000 each, while each winning team in the qualifying rounds will be awarded $34,000.

The total prize pool for the Champion's Trophy is set at $6.9 million, which represents a 53 percent increase compared to previous editions.

The ICC further explained in addition to these amounts, each participating team will also receive $125,000 for taking part in the Champion's Trophy.

The ICC 2025 Champions Trophy will begin on February 19th in Pakistan.

The defending champion and hosts Pakistan will take on New Zealand in the opening match at the National Bank Stadium in the port city of Karachi.

Afghanistan are placed in group B alongside Austria, New Zealand and South Africa.

Hashmat-led squad will kick off their Champions Trophy campaign against South Africa on February 21 in Karachi.

Their second group-stage match will be against England on February 26. Two days later, they will play their last group-stage, game against New Zealand.
