KABUL (Pajhwok): Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs Maulvi Amir Khan Muttaqi has called on the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to assist in determining the fate of Afghan prisoners in different countries.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, a spokesman for MoFA, wrote on his X handle Muttaqi issued the call at a meeting with Pierre Krähenbühl, the head of the ICRC.
Takal said the Krähenbühl praised the overall security situation in Afghanistan and provided information on ICRC activities in the country, particularly in areas such as health and prosthetics.
For his part, Muttaqi expressed gratitude for ICRC’s assistance, and urged the organisation to help determine the fate of the Afghan prisoners held in other countries.
During the meeting, Krähenbühl said: “Although the restriction on access to prisons by some countries has made it difficult for the Red Cross to find Afghan prisoners and inform their families about their situation, we are accelerating our efforts."
This come at a time when Afghan migrants in Iran, Pakistan and some other countries are regularly arrested and forcibly deported due to lack of legal documents.
