FARAH CITY (Pajhwok): The residents of Farah City, the capital of western Farah province, would be provided with 12 hours electricity after the purchase of three new generators, an official said on Monday.
Electricity Department Operational Chief Salahuddin told Pajhwok Afghan News three new diesel generators worth of nearly nine million afs have been purchased.
He said that previously they had a generator that produced 1.2 MW of electricity, but now with the purchase of new generators, the electricity production rate has increased to 3.8MW.
He said that previously, residents of six districts of Farah city were provided with two to three hours of electricity, but now this rate would be increased to 12 hours.
Ibrahim, a resident of Farah city, told Pajhwok that he was happy that the level of electricity production in the province has increased.
He said that Herat and Nimroz provinces provided with imported electricity and one kilowatt of electricity cost five afs there, but in Farah the price of the same electricity unit is 20 afs, which many people cannot afford.
Similarly, Mohammad Rahim, a resident of the center of Farah, said that due to the high price of electricity, many people were using solar power.
