KABUL (Pajhwok): Imports from Afghanistan to India have surged, but exports declined since the Islamic Emirate’s takeover, a media report said on Tuesday.
Indian Express reported citing statistics by Indian Ministry of Commerce, the value of imports from Afghanistan reached $642.29 million in 2023 and 2024.
It said most of Afghanistan’s exports to India included agricultural products such as figs, potatoes, almonds, apricots, onions, pomegranates and walnuts.
India’s exports to Afghanistan went down significantly, reaching their lowest level in 16 years, the report added.
Last month, Indian Deputy Foreign Minister Vikram Masri, in a meeting with Amir Khan Mottaqi, Afghan Foreign Minister in Dubai, explained New Delhi is interested in expanding its political and economic relations with Afghanistan and boosting the country’s trade through Chabahar Port.
IEA officials have always emphasized their desire to strengthen economic and political relations with India, describing the country as an “important regional and economic power”.
