Heavy rain, flash floods predicted in parts of country

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Ministry of Transportation and Civil Aviation (MoTCA) on Tuesday predicted heavy snowfall and rainfall in some provinces.

On its X handle, MoTCA wrote that heavy rainfall and snowfall will likely lash Herat, Farah, Nimroz, Helmand, Kandahar, Zabul, Uruzgan, Daikundi, Ghor, Badghis, Paktika and Ghazni provinces.

The amount of snowfall in different places is expected to be between 10 and 35 centimeters and the amount of rainfall in different places is expected to be between 15 and 30 millimeters.

The ministry also wrote that in western provinces, including Salang, there is a possibility of strong winds, the speed of which is expected to be between 50 and 80 kilometers per hour in different places.

The Ministry of Water and Energy (MoWE) also predicted rainfall, snowfall and flash floods in different parts of the country in the coming three days.

A statement from MoEW said: “Rain and snow are likely to be relatively heavy along with flash floods in the “Kabul” sea basin, and there is a possibility of flooding due to rain, melting snow and rising water levels along the rivers of Chaghcharan, Harirud, Farah, Tirinkot, Kandahar, Zabul, Helmand, Nimroz, Faryab, Balkh, Jawzjan, Khost, Laghman, Nangarhar, Paktia, Logar, Panjsher and some related cities have been predicted.”

The ministry asked residents of the mentioned areas to refrain from going near the banks of rivers during floods and inform downstream areas to about flooding to prevent human casualties.
