Kabul-Gardez highway closed following heavy snow

PUL-I-ALAM (Pajhwok): The Kabul-Gardez highway was temporarily closed against all vehicles on Thursday following heavy snow and storms, the Ministry of Public Works says.

The ministry’s media office head Mohammad Reza Karimi, told Pajhwok Afghan News the highway has been closed in Tiri Kotal area since last night due to heavy snowfall and avalanches.

He said: “A two kilometers long and four meters wide large avalanche has blocked the road. Work to clear the road began early this morning, but it has not yet been reopened. Our efforts are underway to reopen the highway for traffic as soon as possible”.

He urged travelers to stop at safe places and asked people not to travel to the Salang Pass until unavoidable.

Last night, snow lashed Pul-e-Alam city and districts, closing some highways.
