MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat plans to invest 40 billion afghanis in the electricity sector next year.
Abdul Bari Omar, executive chief of the power utility made these remarks during the inauguration ceremony of a four-megawatt transformer at the 35/6 electricity substation in Balkh district of Balkh province.
He said: "In the past five months, we spent 570 million afghanis on the improvement of the national electricity network. We have made efforts to bring electricity to various provinces and districts, and we are working to shun dependence on other countries."
Omar added that Afghanistan has abundant sources for electricity production and is striving to generate electricity within the country using wind, solar, water, waste, and coal.
According to Omar, the company is working to invest 40 billion afghanis in the electricity sector next year so that Afghanistan can stand on its own feet in this sector.
Meanwhile, Balkh provincial deputy governor Noorulhadi Abu Idress said that it is a source of happiness that the Islamic Emirate, in line with its commitments, has provided the people of this region with the blessing of electricity.
He assured that the Islamic Emirate is addressing all the problems of its people using its resources.
Additionally, the operational deputy of the Balkh Electricity Department, Hamidullah Hamidi, said that a 4-megawatt transformer has been installed at the 35/6 substation in Balkh district.
He mentioned that this transformer was prepared with the help of Afghan engineers at a cost of 1.8 million afghanis.
He said that currently, the electricity company has 16,000 customers in Balkh district.
He added that previously, the people of this district faced frequent power outages, but with the installation of this transformer, not only will the power outage problem be resolved, but 4,000 more families will also benefit from electricity.
