KABUL (Pajhwok): The construction of a new Buthkhak substation in the Bagrami district of Kabul and a 220 Kilowatt transmission line from Arghandi substation to Buthkhak substation has started at a cost of $25.5 million, an official said on Saturday.
Addressing the inaugural ceremony acting Energy and Water Minister Mullah Abdul Latif Mansour said these two projects were part of projects related to the 500 Kilowatt Turkmenistan-Afghanistan transmission line, which is being implemented at a cost of $25.5 million with private investment by the Aufi Bahram Company.
Referring to the launch of other hydropower projects in the country, he said currently when there was no foreign aid, there was no hurdles and obstacles in economic and security sectors.
Dr. Farooq Azam, Senior Advisor to the Ministry of Energy and Water, continued the meeting by calling these two projects fundamental and adding that with the implementation of these projects, electricity will be distributed to thousands of homes, industrial parks and educational institutions.
Meanwhile, Mullah Aminullah Obaid, Governor of Kabul, called the launch of these projects a great achievement and added that these two projects can provide jobs for hundreds of people.

Parviz Haidari, a representative of the Chamber of Industries and Mines, pointed out that 6,500 factories are currently active in the country and added that if the problem of electricity shortage is solved, Afghanistan will become self-sufficient in all sectors.
