KABUL (Pajhwok): US President Donald Trump has fired his Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff CQ Brown, the BBC reported on Saturday.
In a social media post, Trump also announced the replacement of five other top military officers as part of an unprecedented shake-up.
"I want to thank General Charles 'CQ' Brown for his over 40 years of service to our country, including as our current Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff," Trump said.
Gen Brown -- the highest-ranking officer in the country -- was the second black officer in US history to hold the post.
Also on Friday, Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth announced the removal of two additional senior officers -- Chief of Naval Operations Adm Lisa Franchetti and Vice Chief of Staff of the Air Force Gen Jim Slife.
In a statement, the defense secretary said: "Under President Trump, we are putting in place new leadership that will focus our military on its core mission of deterring, fighting and winning wars."
Air Force Lt Gen Dan Caine, who most recently served as CIA associate director for military affairs , would be named as the new chairman of the joint chiefs of staff, the president said.
