Baradar woos Afghan investors in Uzbekistan

KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar has urged Afghan investors based in Uzbekistan to transfer their capital to Afghanistan.

During his two-day visit to Uzbekistan, Baradar issued the call at a meeting with Afghan investors and businesspeople in Tashkent, said a statement from his office.

Baradar highlighted the significant steps taken to boost Afghanistan’s economic growth, including infrastructure projects, road reconstruction, increased domestic production and relative improvement in the trade balance.

He emphasised the importance of investment in key sectors such as technology and healthcare, urging Afghan investors to prioritise these areas for the country’s economic progress.

"The caretaker government is fully committed to supporting the private sector, facilitating returning industrialists and investors and creating opportunities for both domestic and foreign investments," he remarked.

Baradar reiterated the government’s ambition to position Afghanistan as a central hub for regional economic and trade connectivity.

Addressing Afghan investors and traders, he said: "You are the pillars of our country’s economic development. Your investments, experience and suggestions are valuable to us.

"We aim to create even more investment opportunities for you so that you can utilise your expertise and capital to strengthen industrial production, agriculture, transit, and other economic sectors."

Baradar reaffirmed the Islamic Emirate’s commitment to simplifying business and investment processes, improving the tax system and ensuring a favorable environment for economic activities.

He urged all investors and entrepreneurs to bring their industries and capital back to Afghanistan and contribute to the nation’s development.

The Afghan investors in Uzbekistan expressed their willingness to invest between $10 million and $100 million each in Afghanistan, supporting stronger political and economic ties between the two countries.
