GARDEZ (Pajhwok): Thirty small electricity poles have been toppled due to snowfall in southeastern Paktia province, resulting in power outages for thousands of homes, an official said on Wednesday.
Eng. Abdul Rahman, head of the Da Afghanistan Breshna Shirkat (DABS) operational affairs, told Pajhwok Afghan News Last night's snowfall toppled 30 small electricity poles in the biland Manzalo area parts of capital Gardez and other surrounding areas, cutting off power to 2,500 homes.
He said: “On Tuesday snowfall damaged up to 120 electricity poles and up to 30 of them were toppled, cables were tore in some places and short circuits also occurred, we are trying to restore power to normal. Approximately 2,500 households have lost power.”
Meanwhile, a number of residents of the capital city of Gardez also told Pajhwok Afghan News that their electricity has been cut off since last night.
Mohammad Naeem, a resident of the Buland Manzlo area, told Pajhwok that he has not had electricity since last night.
He demanded that the electricity department resolve the problem as soon as possible.
Another resident of the area, Hamid Khan, also told Pajhwok that the electricity in his shop has been cut off since morning.
He said that many activities have faced problems due to the lack of electricity.
However, officials of the Paktia Electricity Department are confident that electricity in the relevant areas of Gardez city will be restored to normal by the end of the day.
