MAZAR-I-SHARIF (Pajhwok): Six people, including an Uzbek citizen, have been arrested with alcohol at the Hairatan port in northern Balkh province, police said on Thursday.
The police headquarters said: “Counter-Narcotics Department personnel arrested today six drug sellers during an operation at the Hairatan port, based on intelligence input.”
In a statement, the police headquarters said the detainees included an Uzbek citizen, who was smuggling alcohol into Afghanistan in a heavy vehicle.
According to the statement, about 87 bottles of foreign liquor, two weapons (a Kalashnikov and another assault rifle), and a Toyota Land Cruiser were also seized from the suspected drug dealers.
Previously, an Uzbek citizen had been arrested in Mazar-i-Sharif city, the provincial capital, on charges of smuggling hundreds of bottles of alcohol.
