PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): Pakistan has lost four security personnel in clashes with militants in North Waziristan tribal district, Dawn reported on Tuesday.
Thirteen militants, who stormed several security checkpoints in Miramshah, were also killed in the ensuing firefights, the newspaper said.
Six security checkpoints in Spalga, Gosh, Tappi, Barwana, Pipana Lower and Pipana Top were simultaneously attacked by the insurgents.
Armed with light and heavy weapons, the assailants were effectively engaged by the security forces, sources told the daily.
At least 13 fighters were killed and several others injured, with four security personnel losing their lives and more than a dozen sustaining injuries in intense fire exchanges.
Following the coordinated assault on Sunday night, reinforcements arrived in the area and mounted a search for the attackers.
Last week, two soldiers were killed when a suicide bomber ploughed his explosives-laden car into their convoy in Eidak area. Ten people, including two civilians, were injured in the bombing.
