Afghan futsal team leaves for Brazil

KABUL (Pajhwok): The national futsal team has departed for Brazil to participate in a quadrennial event, the Afghanistan Football Federation (AFF) said on Wednesday.

AFF announced on its Facebook page the national team left Tehran for Sao Paulo and Curitiba to take part in the tournament.

Akbar Kazimi, Reza Hossainpur, Hamid Reza Hosseini, Hossein Mohammadi and Syed Mujtaba Hossaini would depart for Brazil from Mashhad later in the day, the federation said.

On his Facebook account, AFF spokesman Mustafa Hashimi wrote the Afghanistan-Iran match, which was scheduled for today, could be postponed.

On Tuesday, the national team’s failure to obtain visas had created doubts about its participation in the competition.

The Brazil Quadrilateral Tournament, featuring the hosts, Afghanistan, Iran and Greenland, begins tomorrow. The opening match will be played between Brazil and Greenland.
