KABUL (Pajhwok): The United States has suspended the crucial intelligence it shares with Ukraine to beat back the Russian invasion, CNN reported on Thursday.
A pause in intelligence sharing with Ukraine was in place, suggested statements from National Security Advisor Mike Waltz and CIA Director John Ratcliffe.
However, they did not explain the extent of the restrictions, indicating the pause could be short-lived if the president felt certain that Ukraine was ready for talks to end the war.
On intelligence sharing with Ukraine, Waltz told CBS News: “We are pausing, assessing, looking at everything across our security relationship.”
Late on Wednesday, President Zelensky’s aide Andriy Yermak said after his phone conversation with Waltz that Ukrainian and US officials had agreed to meet soon..
Meanwhile, CIA Director John Ratcliffe also hinted at the early lifting of the freeze on intelligence sharing.
US-provided information on Russian force movements and locations, as well as intercepted communications about their military plans has helped Ukraine a great deal.
Last week, President Donald Trump and his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky had testy exchanges during their meeting in the Oval Office.
