KABUL (Pajhwok): Afghan kickboxer Nessar Ahmad Qazikhani has won a gold medal by defeating his rival in the WAR Championship in the United States.
Qazikhani outplayed his Mexican rival Nicholas Martine in the 145 pounds featherweight category in the bout at the Angel of the Winds Casino in Washington.
Before overcoming his Mexican opponent, Qazikhani had played three matches, scoring two wins and suffering a loss.
In a post-match chat with Pajhwok Afghan News, Qazikhani hoped to win his upcoming encounter and the championship belt at that.
The kickboxer said he was pretty glad with his performance and wanted to bring happiness to the people of Afghanistan.
Seeking to change his boxing style, the pugilist said he was aiming to find way to the Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) — an American mixed martial arts promotion company.
UFC is the largest company organising MMA competitions and hosts the best fighters in the world. It holds events in 12 weight categories and at different locations around the world.
