KABUL (Pajhwok): The Islamic Emirate is trying to connect Afghanistan with regional countries, especially Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Pakistan, through railways, participants of the Peace and Trust international conference in Turkmenistan was told.
Mohammad Ashraf Haqshanas, spokesman for the Ministry of Public Works, wrote on his X-Page today that Herat Public Works Director Mullah Mohammad Idrees participated in the international conference in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, on behalf of the ministry.
He told the mega event that railway played an important role in regional and international economic development, trade and international relations.
“The IEA leadership and the Ministry of Public Works have been trying expand railway network in Afghanistan to connect it with regional countries, especially Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Iran and Pakistan,” he said.
Haqshanas wrote that the purpose of the conference was to hold comprehensive discussions on regional economic development, expansion of railway network, electricity, gas transmission and economic stability.
Representatives from 100 countries participated in the conference, including representatives from the Afghan Electricity Company, the Ministry of Mines and Petroleum, and the Ministry of Public Works.
