KABUL (Pajhwok): The acting Minister of Education has stressed Afghans need to pursue both religious and modern sciences to compete with the world.
The Ministry of Education held a meeting today at Amani High School in Kabul to announce the start of the new school year.
Acting Minister of Education Maulvi Habibullah Agha said that Afghan society needed both religious and modern sciences and the Islamic Emirate was paying attention to both religious and modern sciences so that Afghanistan could compete with the world.
He added work on a new curriculum was underway and anything that conflicts with religion and Afghan traditions would be removed.
He added the new curriculum for schools would include modern sciences in addition to religious subjects.
He urged the masses not to believe in negative propaganda against the Islamic system.
Speaking on the occasion, Deputy Prime Minister for Administratve Affairs Maulvi Abdul Salam Hanafi, addressing students, asked them to make the best use of their time to gain knowledge and understanding and to avoid wasting opportunities and time.
Addressing teachers, he added: “It is our great responsibility and Islamic obligation to faithfully educate the children of the Afghan nation with an Islamic and patriotic spirit so that they can serve the country and the people in the future.”
He said he was committed to building a vibrant education system in order to develop education in all regions of Afghanistan, especially remote areas.
His ministry was responsible for providing an education system for the country that meets the current needs and demands of the country.
The Islamic Emirate leadership was committed to meeting all needs of the Ministry of Education, he said.
According to Hanafi, the Islamic Emirate will use all resources at hand to strengthen the Ministry of Education.
Sheikh Abdul Baqi Haqqani, acting director of the National Examinations Authority, said that a curriculum is needed that could commit children to the people, loyal to Islam and have an Afghan ideology and have no foreign ideology.
However, the Islamic Emirate officials said nothing about the resumption of girls’ education above the sixth grade at the ceremony marking the start of the new school year.
According to the Ministry of Education, in 1403 academic year, approximately 44,000 seminaries and schools were operating across Afghanistan, offering education to over ten million students and scholars through over 250,000 teachers.
