IPL featuring 7 Afghan cricketers kicks off today

KABUL (Pajhwok): The Indian Premier League (IPL), one of the most highly anticipated cricket tournaments globally, is all set to commence today (Saturday).

The defending champions Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) take on Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the opener at the Eden Gardens Stadium in Kolkata.

The Times of India reported the 18th season of the tournament featured 10 teams, with seven Afghan cricketers playing for different franchises.

Afghanistan wicketkeeper batsman Rahmanullah Gurbaz represents the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR).

Afghan spinner Noor Ahmad plays for the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) and Mujeeb Rahman part of the Mumbai Indians.

Azmatullah Omarzai, a dependable all-rounder, plays for Punjab Kings, Karim Janat and veteran leggie Rashid Khan for Gujarat Titans.
