PESHAWAR (Pajhwok): With the immigration computer system at the Torkham crossing fixed, pedestrian movement between Afghanistan and Pakistan may resume today (Saturday).
A private TV channel quoted sources as saying Pakistan’s immigration section had reopened after the completion of necessary repairs.
Only travelers with valid visas and passports would be allowed to cross the Durand Line, said Aaj TV, which gave no further details.
During the month-long closure of the crossing, clashes between the neighbours left the system, which facilitates up to 10,000 crossings on a daily basis.
On Friday, the Torkham crossing did not open for patients and travelers due to repairs to the computer system.
Sayed Tayeb Hammad, spokesman for the Nangarhar police, told Pajhwok Afghan News the crossing would remain shut for travel on Friday.
The route had reopened for cargo trucks on Wednesday afternoon in line with a decision by jirga members from both countries.
