KABUL (Pajhwok): The Sudanese army, continuing to make gains against the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), has claimed retaking the presidential palace in Khartoum.
Sudan’s de facto president and army chief Gen Abdel Fattah al-Burhan said on Friday: “There will be no negotiations until these people …”
Despite ousting the fighters from the palace after nearly two years of fighting, the soldiers were far from end RSF’s control over large parts of the African country, the BBC reported.
In a statement on Telegram, RSF said its fighters were still in Khartoum.”Our valiant forces are still present in the vicinity of the area.”
A number of people, including a team of journalists from Sudan’s state TV and two of the army’s senior media liaison officers, were killed in a drone strike, the paramilitary force said.
After the re capture of the palace, social media posts showed soldiers cheering and kneeling to pray at the entrance.
Army spokesman Nabil Abdallah announced the military had taken control of the palace and ministry buildings.
He said: “Our forces completely destroyed the enemy’s fighters and equipment, and seized large quantities of equipment and weapons.”
Around 12 million people have been forced from their homes since the conflict erupted in April 2023. Millions of Sudanese are reportedly facing famine.
