KABUL (Pajhwok): Deputy prime minister for economic affairs Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar on Sunday launched construction work a transport terminal in Arghandi area of Paghman district of Kabul province.
Addressing a ceremony in this regard, Mullah Baradar highlighted the importance of the construction of the Arghandi transport terminal in the development of transport infrastructure in the country.
He said that the terminal would cost one billion and 285 million afghanis and 42 different facilities would be built in it, adding that the project would be completed in two years.
He added standard construction and expansion of transport infrastructure was considered an important and fundamental step for the country’s economic growth, development, and internal and regional connectivity.
“Unfortunately, due to decades of war and corruption in the country, this important sector was not given attention; rather the existing infrastructure was destroyed due to poor quality. Public properties have been usurped and boundaries of highways and roads become smaller.”
Mullah Baradar said investing in transport and communication infrastructure, wresting back usurped public properties and identifying and restoring original boundaries of roads were considered one of the basic and important national goals of the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan.
He also said that the Islamic Emirate, considering the needs and possibilities of the era, was determined not only to rebuild and expand transport infrastructure, but also to continue its efforts to achieve other fundamental strategic goals.
Mullah Baradar asked the contractor to carry out the work of this terminal with good quality and complete it on time.
At the meeting, Acting Minister of Transport and Aviation Mullah Hamidullah Akhundzada said that the construction of this terminal was important for the transport system and would provide convenience to passengers, traders and drivers.
He added that the terminal was being built on 457 acres of land and his ministry had provided budget for it.
He said the terminal would have a two-story administrative building, a mosque, a parking lot, a fire station, car repair workshops and other facilities.
Head of the contracting company, Mohammad Nasir Wakilzada, said that the project would be completed on time and with good quality and they would consider all standards.
