KABUL (Pajhwok): About 58 large and small check dams have been constructed at a cost of 134 million afghanis in ten provinces last year, the Deputy Prime Minister for Economic Affairs office said on Monday.
In a statement, the DPMEA said the Ministry of Agriculture, Irrigation and Livestock built 58 large and small check dams costing 134 million afghanis in ten provinces in 1403 solar year.
It said these check dams were constructed in Jawzjan, Badakhshan, Kandahar, Faryab, Bamyan, Laghman, Nangarhar, Uruzgan, Takhar and Daikundi provinces.
Funded by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (EIA), concrete, stone and soil were used in their construction.
According to the statement, IEA has begun constructing a series of large and small check dams in areas affected by recent droughts and where groundwater levels have dropped in the country.
