JALALABAD (Pajhwok): Construction work on a garden and a recreational area has been launched in eastern Nangarhar province, an official said on Tuesday.
At the groundbreaking ceremony, head of commercial affairs at Nangarhar Canal Department, Eng. Nadiullah Niazi said these projects were being implemented by a private company, which had signed the contract 15 years ago, but the previous government failed to complete them.
He said the projects were being implemented in 27th and 28th blocks of Hadi Farm area of Canal Department. The garden will have orchards of orange, grapes, pears, figs and other fruits on 37.5 acres of land.
The garden construction project is being implemented at a cost of 25 million afghanis, Niazi added.
According to him, stadiums and parks would be established on 17.5 acres of land worth 20 million afghanis.
Previously, the land was barren, but Canal Company developed it like its other properties, he added.
Officials of the company explained they are trying to use all of the canal’s land for agriculture, horticulture, and other productive sectors.
Meanwhile, Abdul Zahir, head of the private agricultural contractor company, said he is investing in the development of Afghanistan.
These projects would provide short-term and long-term employment opportunities for people and increase the canal company’s revenue.
