Faizabad (Pajhwok): At least 114 traffic accidents occurred in northeastern Badakhshan during the past solar year, resulting in 120 deaths and 167 injuries.
Police spokesman Ehsanullah Kamgar told Pajhwok Afghan News that traffic police installed 200 traffic signs last year to help reduce accidents on the roads.
He added that the traffic police also issued 3,339 driving licenses to applicants and graduated 2,160 individuals from driving courses.
Kamgar said that these measures by the traffic police contributed to a reduction in traffic incidents during the solar year 1403 (2024).
According to him, 114 traffic accidents took place in the center and districts of Badakhshan in 1403.
He noted that in these incidents, 120 people, including women, children, and men, lost their lives, and 167 others were injured.
In comparison, according to police reports, 163 incidents occurred in the province in 1402 (2023), resulting in 106 deaths and 297 injuries, including women, children, and men.
Provincial police attribute the traffic accidents to poor road conditions, technical defects in vehicles, and driver negligence.
