Bilateral trade with Iran exceeds $3b last year

KABUL (Pajhwok): The trade volume between Afghanistan and Iran has reached $3.366 billion in the past solar, says the Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI).

Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad, spokesman for the MoCI, told Pajhwok Afghan News that the figure included $3.311 billion in imports and $55 million in exports.

He explained that Afghanistan’s exports to Iran consisted of mineral stones, raisins, non-alcoholic beverages, vegetable seeds, mung beans, and other products.

Meanwhile, imports from Iran were primarily fuel, liquefied gas, vehicle parts, machinery, factory raw materials, and other goods.

In related news, Iranian media reported that Alireza Marhamati, Iran’s Consul General in Herat, said that the annual economic exchange between Afghanistan and Iran via the Dogharoun border crossing has exceeded $3 billion.

Marhamati highlighted that the increase in trade exchanges between Kabul and Tehran has played a significant role in expanding economic activities and attracting investment in both countries.

He also described the Dogharoun crossing as Afghanistan’s most important economic gateway to Iran, emphasizing that further growth in bilateral trade would boost investor confidence and foster economic expansion.
